What are ADs?

Here's the copy and paste job...

Definition of AD
^AD stands for anti dementor.
There are creatures in Harry Potter called dementors, who suck all hope and happiness from you and eventually take your soul. Way back at the start of the pandemic thread after thread was posted on by posters like this and anyone who'd dare question anything or disagree with anything (like putting cheese in your coffee) was bullied off these threads. And so any actual discussion disappeared and it became an echo chamber of misery.

We are the antidote to that. We follow the rules, but not the "roolz" and we question and discuss with respect to each other. It's all very civil.

Just popping on, to say really sad about Prince Philip.
My DD’s had a upsetting week someone from her secondary school(year 7) has killed himself 17 years old, it’s heartbreaking. Her best friend knew him from primary and was really upset and my DD has been trying to be there for her. I really feel for his GP and his DB, his life was quite tragic.

How awful. Suicide is always a hard way to lose someone and at the age of 17 there was just so much more living for him to do. So sad. I hope your DD is OK.

That is utterly tragic. I respect a good life, well lived, but all that lost opportunity and potential is so difficult for loved ones to live with.
I remember a fatal accident involving a car of sixth formers while I was y7. It sent a shock through the school community.

My cohort seems to have reached 40 pretty well compared to average from what I know. We take good health and a safe life for granted but statistically a lot of cohorts don't get through life very long without being touched by tragic incidents.

Signing in. Sorry to hear your news MrsE .

I'm currently watching series 1 of the Crown so when I heard about Prince Philip dying I immediately thought of Matt Smith and the young Prince Philip who isn't very keen on being told what to do by palace officials.

Thanks everyone, she is so lovely. She is worried about her friend and she is also upset for the train driver. We had a good talk about mental health. The whole of the town has come together in mourning. I had a little cry too, selfishly thinking about losing her. But he will be with his Mam now, if there is a heaven.Flowers

Such sad news. Lovely that your dd is also thinking of the train driver. A relative is a driver and hit someone who jumped in front of his train a few years ago. It was very upsetting for him. They train them to know there is nothing they can do if someone does that, but it's hard nonetheless.

Sad day today. The death of a young person is just so sad for those left behind.

The queen, I am glad Philip came home for his last days much better for all the family when there is professional care available. I was a bit choked up to be honest.

I'm back after a name change and saying hi!

@MrsEWeatherwax Flowers for your DD and her friends. It's such awful news

And so sad about the Duke of Edinburgh too. I described him as being like everyone's favourite racist uncle. The world has changed a lot and that generation haven't always changed with it but he seemed to have a good heart and I got a lot out of the DofE although I only got Bronze. And now the whole Royal family have to miss a husband, father and (great) grandfather while the whole world watches them. I do wonder how this will play out though with it so soon after Harry's Oprah interview. We had some family drama at my grandad funeral, I can't imagine that will be allowed for the Royals but I bet they would be thinking it!

Checking in. So sorry to hear that MrsE Flowers So awful for the poor lad feeling like that course of action was his only option.

I feel a bit sad about the Duke of Edinburgh. Mainly from a family perspective, 73 years is such a long time to be together.

My dad met him once. The Queen and Prince Philip were there to push a ceremonial button for a big engineering project. She was sitting there upfront with a slight ‘where is my farking husband’ expression. Meanwhile Philip was at the back of the room chatting with the engineers (of whom my dad was one) and cracking jokes about how he’d better get up to the front as he was pissing off the boss.

I was very sad to hear about Prince Philip, from my own perspective it felt like a seismic change, another constant taken away at a time when we have had too much change.

Also, my first husband died in his forties, and I have thought so much about the Queen after over 70 years of marriage and how life for her without her husband will be even more unimaginable and hard to face than it was for me at that point.

Sorry to hear the sad news about that young man @MrsEWeatherwax these things are all the harder to bear at the moment when we can’t come together in person. I thought when they asked people not to leave flowers at Windsor Castle, that for some people who have not been able to mourn properly this year they would have taken comfort in a strange way from some kind of public expression of a grief that wasn’t just for Prince Philip’s passing.

It is but I think the law covers this so they can grieve together? Not sure though.

I've done a stint on the C board. Nothing changes, does it. I better hide it now.

I’ve been battling on the C board as well this morning Acorn. Not sure why as there are some really brainwashed people on there but thought I’d give it a go on a boring rainy day with nothing else to do!
There are a fair few AD’d around but the D’s seem to be quite prominent at the moment. Must be the fear that some people may actually leave their house and do some norma things over the next few weeks.
@MercyBooth, I saw you were getting some grief on your haircut thread, hope you’re ok Flowers There were a few of us on there who were capable of reading between the lines and understood what you were saying.

Grin think I’m in a mischievous mood. Usually I don’t engage in arguments when posters mention me specifically or try to goad me, but one poster is getting so much adoration on the thread about only vaccinated people being evacuated from the Caribbean island where a volcano is erupting that I couldn’t resist! I need to go and take the dog for a walk I think!
