Yoga top and mat

I went to my first yoga class yesterday and enjoyed it.

I need a top that won't start falling down while I'm upside down. I am late 30's so no crop tops! Please recommend a top.

I also want a nice thick yoga mat as I get sore joints and of course grippy on both sides.

Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of money to spend. So just something that will help me get going! So nothing that's costs £80 as that's our family's weeks shopping!

I wear Sweaty Betty seamless tops or the looser ones over a tighter vest top. Never had any issues with them flapping or falling open. You can get them on Vinted quite often. I prefer tight-fitting stuff but our instructor favours a bit more loose-fitting.

Yoga you usually want a slightly thinner mat, Pilates uses the thicker ones so if you want a thick one, have a look at Pilates mats instead. Be aware that it might make certain movements a bit more awkward if you are sinking in a bit.

Do they provide you with bricks and blocks? A nice blanket is good to have too, one that’s not too soft and holds its shape. I have a nice blanket from Yoga Matters.

And welcome to the world of yoga, it’s wonderful!

BAM clothing does a longline yoga top with a band around the bottom and another style that's ruched up the sides so it doesn't fall down when you're inverted - they're usually in the sale (which is on now). And I like Gaiam yoga mats which you can get from Amazon or sometimes TKMaxx for less than full price.

I like a fitted vest type top, safe for upside down! Have had ones have found last well from supermarkets, Primark and M&S.

disliked the BAM one I tried, was layered type style with a looser top and semi bra type thing, then fitted around the middle, size correct but it showed and gaped too much.

Thank you, I'll look into Sweaty Betty and BAM. I think having one with breast support would be good. I'm not big In that area but if it means not having to wear a bra that would be great.

No they didn't have any bricks or blocks.
