Hi guys!
What changes did you notice after exercising? I have been practicing online yoga several times a week for six months, but I have never been stationary. I don't see much change in my appearance.
Plus, I'm not more flexible and i have muscle pain.
Can you recommend some yoga practices for me or should I sign up for a classroom session?
Thank you!

What exactly have you been doing?

Im definitely more flexible after doing it for a couple of years. I’m kind of more robust too. I can fling a leg over a gate without fear of pulling something.

I do aim to be stiff after a session though.

I've been doing daily practice for 3 months and can finally touch my toes so I can see a little improvement in flexibility.

No other notable changes yet.

I practice simple yoga exercises, most often the flow type

I started noticing improved flexibility, stronger muscles and a more toned shape after about 6 months.

If you’re feeling pain you’re doing it wrong (or maybe too enthusiastically)!
Definitely try to get to some in real life classes with a qualified yoga instructor who will be able to guide you as to what works best for your particular body.
I aim to feel an ache or a stretch but never pain.

I'm more flexible and can balance for longer, and a friend commented at the weekend I have yoga arms. I think there's stomach muscles hiding under the padding, too.

I do online yoga nearly every day, but I do a real life class once a week, too, and an occasional yoga retreat. It's good to have someone showing you how to adjust poses, remind you not to lock your knees, things like that.

But also, with the flexibility- ages ago, my yoga teacher showed us x-rays of pelvises and hips, and pointed out that some of us will never be able to spread our legs completely horizontally, because bone will get in the way. Over time, you can stretch muscles so you can fold more deeply, but we are all built differently, and some of us will never be able to do certain poses as easily as others.

I have recently started yoga, but my teacher doesn't ever correct the poses(?) that we use, so I'm not sure if I'm doing it right. A friend told me that this is in case you injure yourself and try to sue them. Does anyone know if that's true? Surely that's the point of having classes and not just following someone on YouTube?

I've never heard of this and have had several different teachers, you could probably hurt yourself more by not being corrected as you do often need some help even with things that seem simple.

Sounds like your teacher is not so good.

Many more yoga teachers now don't do physical adjustment as there is great understanding that there is not one single shape that all bodies should aspire to. We all have different anatomical structures and experiences, your warrior 2 might look different to mine depending on your pelvic shape and alignment.

If you can see a student is potentially endangering them self that's different - but much more teachers are encouraging self agency to learn what feels best rather than what looks best.

If you have instagram Alexandria Crowe is great on this topic

I've been doing a class once a week, and did most of daily yoga in January.

I can squat better, which I notice when I'm planting stuff in the garden.

I can balance better.

I can lift slightly heavier stuff.

And I just feel better for it.

Hedjwitch · 23/07/2023 21:21

Once a week here for the last 6 months or so. Hated it at first but getting more into it now and trying to do a few minutes a day here and there.
Can squat down with heels on the floor now,can reach my toes, can twist further in both directions stronger thigh muscles and tummy reduced. Also no longer have stiff shoulders and associated headaches.
