I am really very new to yoga, beginning at home, gently and slowly, with a view to joining a class when I feel more familiar with things.
Am currently doing 10 mins per day and easing into it, with some mild modifications to tougher movements.
I do use youtube but find most online guides distracting when I am actually practising, and most don't really go into any detail about asanas for beginners (even if their title claims to do so!). So I would love a couple of good books, both practical and more philosophical/theoretical.
I don't like that overly feminised ditsy vibe some of the books have so would prefer to avoid anything zany or cute.
I have a large yoga manual that jumps straight into 12 classic asanas with no introductory or helpful sections for a beginner. Like it takes you from. 'what is yoga?' straight into "here, do the scorpion pose!!!"
There are plenty on Amazon that look great, but which to choose at my level? I have a decent understanding of yoga history and theory and like to get my teeth into the deeper elements, so the book doesn't have to be an 'easy read' - but it would have to give me the bare basics, terminology, intro to poses, etc.
Any great ones to recommend?
