New yoga mat to replace ancient Boots one!

I've been doing yoga on and off for about 15 years I think. I've done a few different types of yoga in classes. I still have the same old Boots yoga mat that I got way back then!

I'm still quite beginner-ish (no headstands here) although quite flexible in some respects (nurse asked if I did yoga when she did my smear haha). I have issues with my knees and wrists during certain poses, they hurt if I put pressure on them. But I gather you can get blocks to help with that?

After a break I've been doing some Adriene yoga on Youtube at home. I'm quite enjoying it too. And I'm thinking I could get a new mat.

A friend who has recently got into yoga suggested I get a Manduka mat but it's about £60 and I don't think I could justify that. So I'd prefer a cheaper one. I quite like the look of the eco ones but not sure where to start, rubber, cork etc?

I think the main issue is thickness. Current matt is pretty thick. It's just a bit yuck ( I did hot yoga for a while a couple of years ago so hello sweat!) and I fancy a new one. But I'm not sure what's up with all the different mm thickness?! Would it be even worse on my knees and wrists if I got a very thin one? I'm not sure what to do.

Thanks for any advice.

I have a thick cork mat it's 4mm thickness. I really like it.

Thanks @Mercurial123 Is cork quite a good material? 4mm seems an ok thickness I just don't want to hurt myself.

They usually have mats & blocks at TK Maxx, Tiger has them too.

WTF0ver cork is great you just need to dampen it with a water spray bottle for trip. Mine has a thick spongy backing. It's really comfortable to use.

I'll have a look in TK Maxx at the blocks.

The cork mat sounds good. I'll have a look online and see what's available. What brand is yours @Mercurial123?

TX Maxx have lovely thick mats.

I have a Lululemon travel mat. They’re not a nice company (not great to their staff for example), but I bought it on eBay rather than from them... it was about £20-ish.

It’s quite thin so I layer it with a studio mat in class but it’s very grippy and it’s fine on carpet, or grass so great for at home. And it takes up a bit less space than a normal mat.

I would recommend it.

I have a thick one from Tesco. The thin ones are hardly better than the floor. My knees hurt after a while so thick is a must. Not particularly environmentally friendly material, but I've been using it several times a week for years so that must count!

Mine is from Scoria World. The postage was expensive as it was shipped from Canada.

Amazon have a large selection of cork mats.

Thanks everyone! I'll be looking for a thicker mat then, my knees are knobbly and sensitive!

I personally use Jade. I have the travel for caring around to classes and the Harmony for at home.
Will try a cork one next

I had a thin mat that I bought in my studio for the first time. I used it for about 3 months but then I saw my friend using thick one about 15 mm. I bought the same one and it's the best I've ever had. I use a thin one when I need to go somewhere.
