Yin yoga

I've been doing it for a couple of months as I sprained my ankle and was unable to do Vinyassa. I can't believe what a difference it's made to my practice. My breathing has improved and have noticed my flexibility has gotten so much better. Looking forward to starting my Vinyassa again but I also love to relax in yin. Anyone else feel the same?

I did yin once during a summer workshop. I found it hurt like hell! I was in pigeon pose for 15 minutes!!! I didn't find the sustained hold a 'release,' just sore and tough...each to their own though..good that it works for you.

I adore yin! Where I live there's only a ass once a month, which I always really look forward to. I find it so relaxing and it makes a huge difference to my quality of sleep.

Once a month ass! I love it Grin

Is it over a fifteen minute hold is quite extreme. I do online classes with Yoga International and only hold poses for five minutes maximum. I hate pigeon but I have tight hips.

I did wonder about that..I wondered if the workshop I was in was quite extreme. In a 1.5 hour class, we only had time for about 4 poses. We did happy baby pose for 20 minutes. I thought I was going to cry all night! 5 minutes sounds much more doable.

As with any form of yoga, I think much depends on the teacher - I did a few classes when I had a hamstring injury a couple of years ago which were a mixture of yin and restorative and found it ok, but got a bit bored to be honest.

Since then I've been on a couple of 3 hour yin workshops and really surprised myself by loving it - my brain is normally in overdrive and I found I was completely relaxed and calmed and not bored at all. I'd taken classes with this particular teacher before though and have a lot of time for him and his ethics and style of teaching, so I think that was a lot to do with it.

I put music on and treat it as a meditation session. My forward folds have really seen improvement. I know someone who did yin and held frog pose for thirty minutes I don't think I could cope with that.

15 minutes sounds long. I think we do 5 minutes for each pose. And the teacher talks to us while we're in the pose, explaining (in her lovely, soothing voice) how the pose is helping us.

It's worth taking care of your surroundings. The decor is important to me. You do not need much. Even something as simple as the climate poster wallposters.com/ will diversify every place.
