Which are your most dreaded poses?

And I know, the most dreaded are the ones you need to practice!

Mine is half moon pose. I practice it a lot at home but remain crap at it.

Most loved is crane pose as I have recently finally mastered it!

Headstand and handstand. I have neck and shoulder issues, so I often don't even attempt them. I'd love any tips if anyone has mastered them.

I’ve been practicing circa 20 years, and also teach. But I have decided some poses are just not for me. Can’t do headstand (can’t bear it), could break myself to get into hanumanasana, but have come to the conclusion that it’s not worth it. I have persisted, but really don’t like them.
There’s plenty of other asanas to do Smile
Some asanas are simply not possible for some people due to skeletal variances.

And, being able to stand on your head/ do the splits/ stand on one toe does not make you a better person or lead you to greater spiritual enlightenment Wink

As chickydoo said, there are some you need to let go.......practice non-attachment and not coveting them!

Downward dog. Cant i get a cat instead?

Hanuman · 25/07/2018 08:59

Down dog. Mostly because I feel like teachers are obsessed with it - I want to do other poses as well!

Curiousquestioning · 25/07/2018 21:34

@AlwaysColdHands Thanks for your post. It's good to know that even yoga teachers have dreaded poses. You're also reminding me of what yoga is really about. Thanks. Flowers

Half moon - practice it against a wall .... then you can gt the angles right with support

Down dog - keep your knees bent and spine straight until it becomes easy

Crow - face plant into sofa cushions until it becomes easy

Hero - some people's knees and hips just wont do it.

sharkirasharkira · 26/08/2018 23:26

Bit of a strange one - I'm a real beginner so all the usual ones like Crow and headstands are really hard for me but the one I really have never been able to do properly that is quite embarrassingly easy is....

Tree! My foot just refuses to stay put at my inner thigh no matter how hard I try. It always ends up sliding down to my knee, which I hear is bad Sad

That and Hero. My legs just won't bend that way yet

On the plus side my downward dog is on point. I just get bored doing it over and over and over again!

AlwaysColdHands · 27/08/2018 07:23

It’s perfectly acceptable to do Tree with foot pressed against the side of your calf!! That still tests balance & externally rotates and opens the hip joint. Concentrate on other elements such as what the pelvis, tailbone, foot, ankle are doing nd feeling.
If you are desperate to get your foot on your inner thigh, work on pressing the foot into the thigh, and pressing the thigh back into the foot, so pressure coming from each. I know many people who roll up leggings/shorts for this too, as they find it less slippy with skin on skin.

You’re quite right that the consensus is the foot should not be on the knee as pressure in that direction isn’t a good thing. There’s also an increasing recognition that the standing/balancing leg should always have a tiny bend in the knee, especially for anyone with hyper mobile knees.

Enjoy your vrksasana!

Ooh good tips, thank you!

I really struggle with any kind of arm balances, I think I just don’t have the strength

Dolphin - so awkward!
Wheel - I have to psych myself up for every time

OverByYer · 15/01/2022 15:02

Camel pose. My head feels so heavy, I think it will tip me over!

SoManyQuestionsHere · 19/01/2022 08:01

Literally anything that requires any balance on one leg. I can't do it, I wobble and come crashing down after 20 seconds max.

Funny enough, I can do arm balances. I also ride horses and don't fall off those either. But I wouldn't ever pass one of these non-breathaliser drunk driving tests where you're meant to walk along a line either.

Something's just really wrong with my balance standing upright.
