new yoga teacher, disappointed, maybe switching to home practise might be better?

my current yoga teacher has gone on maternity leave. I had had a yoga break for couple years while i moved and settled into new life. Then couldn't find a new yoga place that had classes that suited around working hours. They were all at 10.15 am etc, no good to me. So I finally find a fitness/wellness clinic that has yoga classes, i go along to a few different ones in the evenings and I settle on one and I LOVE it. But sadly the teacher has gone on maternity leave. Am pleased for her, but her (i hope temporary) replacement, is young, wild and not into the relaxing benefits that you can get from yoga. More into the how much can he make us sweat style. Can't decide whether to persevere for a while until our normal lady returns, or not bother and try and develop a home yoga practise to tide me over for a couple months. Has anyone else gone from classes to home practise? Did you still find benefit form it? After having taken a couple years break I am not sure if I know enough to achieve anything at home alone? Confused

I've dropped a couple of classes and now have a subscription my yoga practice has definitely improved and I like the variety of a number of teachers.

Don’t give up because you’re attached to a teacher, I did that and really regretted it. I do classes and home practice now. There are some great dvds you can get if you don’t have a routine yourself.

Try Yoga With Adriene at home. She's brilliant! I hear you on the disappointment though, good yoga teachers are hard to find and if it were me I'd take a break until your regular teacher returns.

There are a couple of great yoga apps OP. I have Daily Yoga & Yoga Studio. One is really good & one is quite robotic - can't remember which is which Grin

I've been watching a lot of Adriene too - she's great! She's really helped me to increase my frequency of practise.

Hi, I had the exact same thing happen, but I stuck with it and ended up loving it! How is the new teacher in terms of helping you and making adjustments?

I find that when you are doing it at home, you don´t have too much of an idea whether you are doing it right. I was doing basic poses like down dog wrong until someone explained exactly what I should be doing and what I should be feeling.

I have Yoga Studio app on my iPad. I bought it years ago when it was first launched and it was a one off payment. I think it is £1.99 a month, lots of choice, you can put together your own routine.

My broadband is too slow for youtube but I have created and downloaded my own sessions.

I have created and downloaded my own sessions .... on the Yoga Studio app!

Yoga with Adriene all the way!

Firstly love Adrienne, but have met a couple of new students and doing it at home has not allowed them to appreciate certain poses fully. For me yoga and Pilates are similar only do online once you have a good grounding in the basics.

Secondly, feedback is what is required. Yoga teachers need it so they can give you what you want.

Lastly, you may not like his style, but more than likely you are just attached to your teacher. Decide which it is and let it go.
