I did a full wheel today, for the first time in at least 30 years!

This could be a sign of mid-life crisis that I'm so proud, but I don't care Grin

I think I need to try again near a wall. It appears it was a confidence thing - I just needed a little help to get up and then I wasn't leaning on the teacher at all.

BTW I have been practising crow at home but although I can kind of doing it I think my knees are sticking out too much. They need to be more up towards the armpit I think from viewing pics on the internet.

Yes, try your headstand by the wall. That's what I do, too. I just need the wall for that first kick up and then once I'm straight up, I don't touch it.

Tried today. Not got the confidence yet to do it on my own. It'll come.

On a different note today we did the type of yoga where you hold poses for ages. 6 minutes in downward dog anyone?!

CoteDAzur · 30/11/2015 22:07

Is that Yin & Yang? Or Iyengar? I always mix those two up.

6 minutes in dogward dog sounds a bit extreme! Shock

In my sivananda style class we only do down dog as part of sun salutations, moving with the breath, but do stop quite often in down dog and hang out there for a while. It's usually dynamic though rather than staying rigidly in down dog, so will do some walking dog, tiger variations etc.

We hold most poses for longer than other styles, but you are only expected to do what feels comfortable and to come out when you've had enough. There's quite a lot of emphasis on gradually stretching into a pose, which i like as you can find your edge and play around it.

Iyengar I think.
Today I have very stiff shoulders. Ouch!

CoteDAzur · 10/12/2015 14:52

Crow! Crow! I did a crow today for two seconds Grin

Well done!

CoteDAzur · 15/12/2015 08:17

Thanks, cece Smile I got what Dr Google tells me is rotator cuff injury from that day's yoga and have only just returned to full mobility on my right shoulder. (Oh, the joys of yoga)

I blame kicking up towards forearm stand rather than the 2-second crow for that, though. Ouch.

I've been struggling the past week with my yoga - feeling a bit emotional at the mo and I have been amazed at how it affects my ability to hold a pose.

CoteDAzur · 18/12/2015 11:39

Is it because you can't stop thinking about whatever it is that is causing you emotional distress?

I have stopped doing yoga for the moment because that sudden onset of shoulder pain scared me, but it feels fine now and I'm keeping positive about it. 2016 is another year Smile

I think it might be more a confidence thing - self belief that I can do it.
