@JabbaJibba @the80sweregreat I absolutely love Manhatten Skyline

I'm bloody knackered, thank God all the remaining games are at a reasonable time! Argentina needed ET to beat 10 men. Maybe not invincible?

I am so tired too - got to bed after 5am 🙈

Those saying we need to be better to beat Argentina - they weren’t great last night either!

DuncinToffee · 12/07/2026 13:02

I think it's the media stirring.

Jude Bellingham is proving why Tuchel selected him and I am all for it.

Same with Pickford, aside from the frankly stupid comment about him not being tall enoughConfused

I did that with the Holland Morocco game, this morning I gave up when it was the first advert break.

I really REALLY wanted to stay awake for the Argentina/Switzerland game last night but dozed off before it even kicked off.

DH wants to go to a pub as a family to watch the semi final but I'm erring on staying at home as have DD11, DS13 and I think it's going to be a very hostile game and I don't want DD and DS getting jostled out of the way etc. and the atmosphere will be awful if we lose to Argentina. Or am I being a bit precious?

HaroldMeaker · 12/07/2026 13:39

< waves > @IAmKerplunk! We stuck it out to first light. I have to say I was somewhat expecting Argentina to flatten Switzerland and they really couldn’t, even when the Swiss team were down to ten men and attemping what we had done in Mexico in guarding their goal. It still went into extra time and I suppose they were pinning their hopes on a penalty shootout. Sadly not to be.

LuckyHazelFox · 12/07/2026 14:00

Spain and Argentina haven't been as cutting as they once were. France is the one to beat. I'm still shit scared about our semi though.

JHound · 12/07/2026 14:13

Well that has vexed me. I am very vexed.

Yeah I think it will get dicey.

Even Reddit Scotland are hesitant over supporting Argentina BC of the Falklands legacy

I wonder if Tuchel knows what he's doing here - firing up his players by making them want to prove something to him.

He’s a Virgo ♍️ (like me) and like Oliver Glasner and I think he’s critical and self critical in equal measures (virgoan trait). He has high standards, a bit of a perfectionist, but apparently if you read about him (sure I’ve posted this here) he gets on well and speaks with Pep Giardiola (sp?) and is always looking for different ways to train and improve his methods as well as that of his players. A lot of players find him too much but you can’t deny he gets results.

I agree he’s firing up his players so they want to prove their worth to him. Is that good? Maybe, maybe not. He was a bit harsh on Bellingham I thought. But then again, Bellingham is very young, a superstar player and Tuchel wants more focus from the team as a whole. Tuchel knows how harsh Argentina will be, we’ll be out for blood and revenge after Hand of God and it’ll be very spicy. Don’t know positions of players but how good it’d be to see Kane/Messi, Kane/Bellingham one on one. I was so disappointed not to see as much of Haaland as I’d hoped. I was expecting a real stunner or two from him. I even watched a short video on his goals.

Seaitoverthere · 12/07/2026 16:25

Can I just stick my head in and ask something ? I don’t generally watch football though used to watch the World Cup during the 90s. I’ve just realised that England had a German manager, how did that go down at the time he was appointed and is he any good ?

I had an English Dad and a German Mum, grew up in the 70s and had enough shit about being half German to last 2 life times so am a bit bemused finding out England have a German manager!

I was thinking I might watch the semi final which is how I have just made my extremely belated discovery, thanks 😁

the80sweregreat · 12/07/2026 16:30

I suppose that being German didn’t go down well really with some of the fans. Same when we had a Swedish manager too. You can’t please everyone though.
Tuchel was sacked twice before by other teams apparently, but that’s all I know and read online.
I don’t follow football at all though, tbf so had never heard of him before. Southgate had a lot of grief too. Goes with the terrority.

SwedishEdith · 12/07/2026 16:35

I always think England play better when they're the underdogs. Although, technically a better team than Mexico, the stadium and the Mexican crowd made it feel like England were the underdog team.

That's my fingers crossed rationale/convincing myself logic for the Argentina game. They are beatable. I was gutted Egypt didn't beat them. It was 2-0 when I went upstairs to get ready for something. Came down to 3-2 😮

Spain have been really boring to watch.

It's funny how the final four teams are the top four seeded teams.

Same in Wimbledon re the seeding.

Argentina didn't convince me, but I didn't see extra time.

I don't remember any outright hostility about Tuchel but I don't read the tabloids so may have missed it.

It was funny in the Dear England drama where Southgate talks about the England/Germany rivalry and Tuchel doesn't know what he's talking about. For Germans, their rivals are the Dutch.

I was sorry the Netherlands went out so soon. Always had a soft spot for them.

Seaitoverthere · 12/07/2026 16:55

So true about the Germans and the Dutch 😁 Let’s hope they win under his management! I’d better watch..

It's about bicycles. When the allies entered Holland in 1944, the Germans stole all the bicycles to cycle back to Germany on. The Dutch want their bikes back.

<waves back> we powered through didn’t we! 💪 Hope you’re not too tired today!

I thought it would go to pens and Switzerland would win in another WC twist.

Personally for me it depends on the general atmosphere of the pub, maybe go to one where you can book a table, and I would just leave straight after the game win or lose.

dapsnotplimsolls · 12/07/2026 19:38

I feel like I've been neglecting Wimbledon for the football. This final is an absolute corker!

the80sweregreat · 12/07/2026 19:59

Well done Sinner. Glad he did it.
