Dear All,please give me some advice I am very confuse here.I have been made redundant in April 2010.Straight after I have got a temporary job and I have registered myself as a self employed so I can pay my taxes. After 3 weeks I have stopt working as self employed as I have been employed.Unfortunately this last employment finished after 2 months. Now I have gor again a temporary job as a self employed till October when I will be employed by this other company. Now my confusion is about my tax return:How am I going to proof that I have earned what I said as I have been payed cash and I never put those money in my bank. What proof of my income are they going to ask me for ?Oh,please I just dont know how is this going to work for me.Thank you for all the advice.

mama, if someone has paid you as a self employed person, you should have given them an invoice for the money, otherwise, they can't prove to the tax man that they paid you the money.

OR, did they ask you to sign a form/book/paper when they gave you the money?
If so, ask them to give you a copy of whatever you signed.

It is okay, as long as you keep records of your payments. Copies of your invoices to your temporary employers is usual.

But self-employment is more complicated than that. Have you actually told HMRC that you are working on a self employed basis?
