I have a small team reporting to me atm who are very unhappy and demotivated and I need them not to be so! There is a lot of stuff medium and longer term that I can and will do to improve their lot and make their jobs and lives easier but in the meantime I have a very small (£1k ish) budget to improve their morale - does anyone have any ideas? So far I'm taking them out for a team lunch next week and I'm also thinking of:

Granting a lie in/the ability to leave early to the best performing team member of the month
A decent bottle of wine for the best customer service of the month
What else?
Any and all ideas welcome, TIA.

TBH I found that an employee of the week/month etc was found to be patronising. My team were and still are to some extent very demotivated - mainly because their job is monotonous.
I found that regular chats with them, regular breaks and bacon sarnies and a pub lunch on a FRiday seemed to work better than anything.

I'm getting a picture of you spinning around in your revolving chair trying to run a meeting

HRHWickedwaterwitch · 28/11/2005 16:52

Oh well Helsi, if they do think it patronising they're a) not saying so, I did ask for opinions b) happily taking their hour off when they get it

ha ha crunchie!

That's fine then WWW it just didn't work for me. the bacon sarnies did though - quite happy to stuff their faces on a Friday morning!

Hi WWW haven't had the chance to read all of these threads but what about hiring someone who does shiatsu massage to come in and massage a few of the team whilst at work. MY friend had this at her work on Monday mornings and Friday afternoons to pep everyone up and strangely nobody was ever off sick at these times
You can massage with clothes on and I think some masseurs bring their own special chairs with them. It's only a small suggestion but I remember being very impressed by it!

I think "employee of the week" kind of stuff is crap without something to go with it apart from the title. So in this case, it works because there's a tangible benefit to go with the title - the hour off.

dingdongmeggymooonhigh · 28/11/2005 17:00

they'd LOVE you for it.

gloriainexcHELSIsdeo · 28/11/2005 17:00

ddmh - that's a good idea. I remember that being sone where I orked years ago and seemed to really relax people. MMM worth thinking about for myself and my team!!(if I ever get back to work)

dingdongmeggymooonhigh · 28/11/2005 17:02

Crumbs that's me done for the next couple of years then, I have a good one every once in a while.
Um, WWW if you do decide to do this, when can I come and work for you????

Caligyulea · 28/11/2005 17:03

We used to get a subsidised Shiatsu massage. So we still had to pay something, but it was vastly discounted. And very popular.
