Hi everyone,
Has anyone got any good ideas of how to fill out a flexible working request and demonstrate I have considered everything, I work in an office in a marketing job in a very busy team, would be grateful for ideas of what I should include to demonstrate I have covered all bases.
Thanks

Hi,
Just had a look at my flexible working form (not filled it in yet am only 26 weeks pg), the form says I need to give careful consideration to the impact of flexible working on the company and how this may be dealt with (ie suggest solutions) with regard to:

  • the impact on the achievement of role requirements
  • the impact on my colleagues
  • the impact on the customer, in terms of availability to meet their needs

It also says the onus is on me to explain how the change will affect the company and how it could be dealt with.

I would be tempted to say "if other people did their jobs properly I would not need to spend so much time picking up the pieces" but fear this would not be constructive (!) and is prob just the pregnancy hormones.

Hope this helps

I included things like:

  • how I could be contacted when working from home
  • impact on other team members and how I'd seek to mitigate them
  • how I would communicate with the wider business to ensure that nothing got dropped

I work ft but from home one day so obviously you need to adapt if you want some other kind of flexible working

What are you proposing? and how do you propose your job is done in less time and if department is busy, will there be work that needs to be redistributed?

Ideas: changing in the way work is done, sharing tasks across brands / customers etc so they take less time over all, standardise practices, information etc so jobs can be shared round the team in busy times, use "meetings in a box" so once a concept has been developed, it is shared across the team and not reinvented each time you need to do something new.

I would also speak to your manager to avoid them reacting negatively to an unexpected request. If you break it to them gently and have a discussion, it might work out better for everyone. Have compromises in mind and answers as to how work can be reduced / re-distributed.
