If a UNion gave you incorrect advice what would you do?

Can't be too specific but dhs union told him that paternity leave isn't an entitlement and that during that time he can work up to 10 days.

I'm fuming about all the issues surrounding the paternity leave hence making him contact the union but this was from their specialist!

Assuming you know your DH does meet the requirements to be entitled to paternity leave, that's shocking.

I imagine they have a complaints procedure he will be able to use.

Then leave the union - in a difficult situaton incompetent 'help' is worse than none at all, imo.

I've said that! He is in 2 so hoping the other may be more use.

He has to give notice of intention to take Pat leave by next week. What happens if he doesnt have proper info by then?

What information is it he needs?

It's v complicated situation & prob unique so can't post details. Am v frustrated by not being able to post!

It's partly to do with pay & potentially being on call whilst on pat leave.

OP - Sorry, but just to check, you definitely mean paternity leave don't you? It sounds odd for even the most incompetent adviser to say you can work up to 10 days during maternity leave, since for mon-fri employees paternity leave is 10 working days.

In terms of pay, you get SPP (= lower rate SMP) unless there is a policy to pay more. You can't be on call - it's like being on maternity leave in that respect. You probably know that already, is there anything else you can say without identifying yourself?

His situation is prob 1st time it's arisen so not really!

We can't even get to the bottom of the pay thing. seen two different policies and all get SPP wrong.

Made him email other union last night & set one of his admin people on hunting out accurate details. He is stuck in meetings & training today & tomorrow so v difficult to do phone calls. I can't speak to HR as it's not for me !
