Do you think it is feasible to study for a masters by distance learning whilst having 2 chldren and working part time as a contractor? I would be interested in anyone elses experience of this.

do you have family about to help out? depends really on how much support you will get from others and how old the children are. you would need to be very disclined.

Yes. I did a Masters while working full time and had a 2 year old when I started.

You need to get organised. Agree with partner/family when your studying time is and refuse to compromise (mostly).

Anything is possible, I had a lecturer that studied for his Masters while running a pub with his wife and a poorly baby that needed 24 hour care (something he reminded us of regularly around assignment due dates)!

I think Slug is right, it depends on your circumstances/family/friend situation.

My husband did a Masters working full-time and is now (with two children) doing his PhD whilst still working full time. You do need to be very disciplined - he gets up early to do a bit and then works in the evening after bedtime generally, with the odd weekend when I take the children to my mother's to leave him in peace.

I'm studying for a 2 year part time masters whilst working part time (4 days a week) for myself and my kids are 3 and 5. It's not easy I grant you!

Only really able to manage it by having some flexibility w my work (am self employed, but still have projects and clients that I can't just drop), and dh agreed to be actively supportive (ie, takes on childcare when required, though I do need to book him in advance and say thank you a lot!).

I found it helped by trying to know in advance if I would have to take study leave. Even giving it that label was helpful, it made it more official, and less something that needed to be fitted in amongst everythinhg else.

And I said good bye to any kind of social life from january to april as all my evenings were taken up studying.... .

Am loving learning again though....
