Upset about nursery...

I have to go back to work in October, I really don't want to but we can't afford for me not to.

DD has a place at a lovely nursery near work, it's pricey but is really nice, elder DD went to the 3-5 year old part of it in another building.

I went to see it in December and liked it, the only thing was the lady who showed me round, the manager, was quite cold and businesslike, she seemed very capable and by the book but didn't seem that warm.

We went to see it again yesterday and I feel so upset now. The lady showed no interest in DD at first, after 5 mins she said, "it's a girl isn't it"!!!! After that she was tickling her toes and saying she was cute, and I have no doubt she would keep DD clean, fed, etc but it just upset me. She said for the first 2 weeks she will take on DD's 121 care as they try to do that so babies don't get confused by lots of new faces.

DH said he thought it was fine and I was overreacting, I just want her to be cared for and have lots of affection by the ladies at the nursery.

It's too late to find another nursery, all the ones I would want are full.

Feel quite crap!

I think you should try and go again and then see how you feel. Maybe tell them you are feeling nervous about leaving your DD and would appreciate another look round to calm your nerves. You have had a positive experience with them in the past so don't write them off just yet.

I do think some adults are great with kids but get very nervous when the are being 'watched', she was probably worried about what you thought of her so seemed cold. The it is a girl question could just be her nerves showing, especially if she could tell you were not happy.

Will the manager be looking after your daughter though or does she just run the business and staff there?

I have no issues with a nursery in general for babies - my other DDs went to one from babies and were fine. It's just the lady that put me off. But no nikki she won't be looking after DD.

I have managed to get us onto waiting list for another nursery, am quite hopeful. Thanks all.x
