Does anyone here work for the NHS on the maternity side?

Don't know if this is the right subject heading but anyway...

My mum has just applied for a post for Newborn Hearing Screener.
The job doesn't require any qualifications or past experience.
Apparently this is a new service.

I would really love to do this job. I've looked on the NHS website and there are only 6 posts in the whole country required atm and sadly none of them are where I live.

What I wanted to know is will all hospitals have these posts eventually and is it a gradual thing, introducing this?

When my baby was born last year and had this,I spent a long time quizzing the operator about her job (I work in something allied in the NHS) and she told me that it would become standard everywhere.

Seemed like a lovely job. She said she loved it.

Oooh that sounds promising.

And does anyone know what qualifications you need to be an auxilary on a Maternity ward?

Thanks MC.

There doesn't seem to be anything at our local hospital atm.

Barnsley, south yorks.

I have no experience at all in Nursing but the newborn hearing job sounded so great.

I remember the auxilary nurse who was working when I had dd and she was lovely. Even helped me with breast feeding.

Have to switch off now but will check back later.

Any info greatly appreciated

TIA.

The area where I live was one of the pilots for the newborn hearing thing. When I had ds she came to visit me at home as it was a homebirth. Very simple to do, much easier than the 8 month test dd had.

I would imagine it will soon be happening everywhere.
