Can't trust employer anymore :-(

Hi

Am really upset so any advice appreciated.

I was told I was at risk of redundancy while on mat leave. It looked definite. They were obviously trying to get rid of me because I'm on mat leave and had a baby. Then I spoke to CAB who helped me write a letter to my employer about the law etc.

My employer has written to me saying my job is still there and there isn't a redundancy situation anymore - but there might be in the future (eg. after my maternity leave).

What should I do? I should be happy but their letter was so vague and its obvious they are not being straight with me.

I'm really confused because one minute they say there is a redundancy situation, then as soon I question them there isn't a problem for the time being anymore - just something for the future. They have really messed me around and given a lot of stress. It just whiffs of dodginess...

Stop worrying, enjoy your time with baby!

Well there is always a possibility of redundancy for anyone, so they can't very well promise that you will always have your job

In the event that the company needs to make someone redundant, they need to be able to show that they have informed all employees that a redundancy situation is possible. As you are on maternity leave, you are still an employee and thus you get the same letter as everyone else.

Your employer has notified you that your particular job is now no longer at risk at the present time.

So stop worrying. They will notify you again if the redundancy situation occurs again... it's part of the procedure - they have to notify you if they start to consider making someone redundant.
