Calling all social workers and those that work in the field - training/qualifications/study advice for someone that wants to get into this. Thanks

Hi. I am really interested in family support. Working with families, children and young people.
My long term goal is to one day become a qualified social worker when funds allow me to do so , but in the meantime, I'd like to get into the field as some kind of family support worker.
Any advice on steps to take? Training to complete?
I've found a course that results in an NCFE level 4 in Social Work with children and families. Would this help me? Is it relevant? Have you heard of the qualification? What's it equivalent to? Any advice would be greatly appreciated
TIA

Thanks Olivia. I also just replied to you on my request thread!

To the rest of you, I spoke to my local college this morning and as I am over 25 and don't hold 5 GCSE's, they will pay for the whole course!
They are sending me out an enrolment pack and are interviewing these next few days, so fingers crossed (I know someone who works there as a teacher, she said she'll make sure I get accepted)

I also spoke to HomeStart this morning and they are sending me an application pack to volunteer with them. Their next training sessions aren't until October, but that's ok.

I'm very excited. I just have to get accepted onto the Access course and find childcare.

Thank you all so so mkuch for your help with this.

I did tell her that I probably do have 5 GCSE's (was so long ago, I don't remember) and she said "I'm not telling you what to say, I'm just saying if someone came to the finance office and said they were over 25 and did not5 hold 5 GCSE's then we will meet all your fees. See you in the week"
