I would be very grateful if anyone could help......

I am writing a job application and have to fulfill the essential skill from person spec of: sound knowlege of child care policies and procedures and the ability to ensure that these are implemented by all team members.

I don't have a knowlege of chilcare policies and procedures and want to say that although I don't have this knowlege I would like to learn more etc.

Can anyone suggest how to get round this without sounding negative? And would I be ok to give examples of monitoring other procedures that I do have exp of, such as equal opps?

Thank you!

PS It is a bit urgent.

I would say if it's listed as an essential skill then you would have to have it already. When I have been involved in recruiting when we do the sift of candidates anyone not showing essential skills would be straight in the regret pile without an interview.

If you are still really keen I would suggest 'phoning for an informal chat. That way you don't waste your time or theirs.

It's probably a bit late as this was urgent, but I have to agree with LadyLapsang. The bottom line is you don't meet one of the essential criteria, meaning it's highly unlikely you'd be shortlisted, even if you give loads of examples of other procedures you know about.

An informal chat might be an idea though, particularly if they end up struggling to fill the post and want to widen their search and relax the criteria for the right candidate.
