need advice / Help!

I am due back to work following 12 months ML in June. As part of my maternity package for the 1st 8 weeks I return for 3 days and paid for 5 days.

I am unable to get permament p/time after this period in my current role (managerial) as this is not viable, and my boss has a very good business case to support this.

Unless I can find a suitable p/time position within the company during the 8 weeks, (highly unlikely they are like gold dust!) I am considering leaving at the end of this period and giving no notice. My justification is that the 8 weeks is to help me settle back into work and to see if childcare & me being away from the children works out.

Does anyone know where I will stand legally with this? I work for a reputable company and do not think they will ask for any money back but you never know. (I have worked there for 11 years) I would also like to be considered by them if any p/time positions became available in the future.

Sorry to ramble on but best to put all the info down. Really hope someone out there can give me some advice?

Two brief thoughts. Could you jobshare- would they consider it?
And leaving without giving any notice would probably not be looked upon favourably if you wanted to stay on their future employee list.
Even a couple of weeks notice would be better than none, if you just walk away they may prove less benign than you anticipate.
Good luck.

thanks marriednotdead, job share not an option, my boss would not consider it as I have a team of 8 people.
Thanks for the suggestion of a couple of weeks notice that sounds a good idea. I was kinda thinking about something like that as yes it would look bad if I just said I won't be back the following week.
