I've just been offered a new admin job (yay!) by the HR directors of a company. He said I should get the letter at the start of next week.

Should I wait for the letter from my new employer until I tell my current boss that I'm leaving or as both companies are sensible is it ok to tell my current boss verbally this afternoon.

I can't see anything going wrong with the offer, but don't want to count my chickens just in case!

TIA

I would wait for the letter... you never know what's going to happen and it's better to have it all in writing.

WAIT for the letter.

I was in this situation - a verbal job offer was given via a recruitment consultant, I told my boss, and it turned out that the company did not have full HR sign off to offer the job. It took 4 months to be approved, so lots of faces when I had to retract my resignation. Thank god boss was OK about it.

Wait until you have that letter in your hand before you play your hand.

Yes - definately wait for the letter... but that shouldn't stop you celebrating this weekend in private. Great news..

Oh yes - wait.

DH had a "definite" verbal job offer from another company - a month later he was still waiting for the letter as they were waiting for HR sign-off (even though he'd had his HR interview and passed).

Eventually he was told that they hadn't got the funding for the role, so it was a good thing he hadn't told anyone.

Definitely wait - apart from the risk that the job might not be confirmed, the terms given in the letter might not be what were agreed verbally. You do not want to be in the position of having to accept terms you are not happy with because you have burnt you bridges with your existing job.

Wait for the letter!

In my work they can offer a job verbally, subject to reference checks. They tell the potential employee this, and if they're not happy, can (and do) retract the offer. Congratulations but tell nobody at your work until you get written confirmation.

Have you had the letter yet meglet? Can we crack open the champagne?
