Part time working request

I work full time and would like to go down to 4 days a week. Company policy is that part time working is possible provided that there is a business case. What kind of thing would constitute a business case other than "I'm soooo very very tired all the time"?

When I spoke with my manager about a similar thing he said if I was there full time I would be un happy so not able to do my job to the best of my ability.
I think though by a business case they mean it would fit with the company... do you work for a private company?

I work for a large company with loads of employees, rather than one owned by an individual. I'm sorry I can't be more specific, they have very strong rules about posting about work on forums (fora?)

You have the right to apply

See here

Your company then has to come back to you within 28 days and arrange a meeting. If they refuse, it has to be for one of 7 reasons I believe which are

The burden of additional costs
§ Detrimental effect on ability to meet customer demand
§ Inability to reorganise work among existing staff
§ Inability to recruit additional staff
§ Detrimental impact on quality
§ Detrimental impact on performance
§ Insufficiency of work during the periods you propose to work
§ Planned structural changes.

Sorry that should say you have the right to apply if you have responsibility for child under 16.

Do you have kids or caring responsibilities (elderly parents, etc). If so, you have the rights detox explains above.

By business case they probably mean explaining how it can be accomadated without causing one of the detrimental results above.
