Just wondering if anyone knows if a home study childcare qualification would actually be worth anything when applying for jobs in childcare?

You really need to have volunteered in a childcare/school setting if you are to be able to flesh out the theory in a portfolio and at interview and show genuine interest in getting such a job. Competition can be fierce and that is what other candidates will be able to demonstrate.

Helping to run a playgroup would look good on a CV and would help solve the problem if you are trying to arrange childcare for your own small DCs.

Only if you have the experience to go with it and you can demonstrate that you know about the EYFS,child development, safeguarding children and other important issues.
Early years qualifications are being overhauled at the moment. It's all changing.

I agree with LIZS but whenever I offer voluntary work to people desperate to qualify in childcare they are never very interested.

Often volunteering is the only way in
