Applying for a job in school, how do I work out how much I'll actually get paid?

It's term time only, for 39 weeks a year - annual salary is £22,500 pro rata. Feeling particularly dim today

TIA

Divide by 52 and then multiply by 39. Does that help?

And then deduct tax & NI.

purpleturtle · 25/04/2010 16:20

I think it'll be about £13500?

D'oh! Thank you

Do schools normally pay every month i.e. a paycheck in August, even though you're not working?

Dont' know the answer to that, sorry.

That £13500 figure was a straightforward 20% deduction - but I'm rather out of touch on income tax, and probably should have taken off your personal allowance first. But it's a ballpark figure to start with!

Schools pay monthly in arrears, I think they would tell you if it was any different to this

£22.5k pro rata is £16, 875. After tax/NI you would take home £13,567 p.a. or £1,130 per month.

You can have a play around on this salary calculator to take into account student loan calculations and pension contributions as well.

Actually you may well find you are paid for more than 39 weeks, because most TAs get holiday pay too - I work in a support role at a school and I get paid (I think)for 43.26 weeks - I get 1/12 of the total every month, even though I don't work at all in August.

Brilliant, thanks all.
