Can anyone help re: re-structure/redundancy.....

..... possible, if not probable demotion?

I'll keep it short and would appreciate ANY input.

I have to attend a meeting this week with regards to the re-structure of the office, which I currently run. Boss will not tell me anything about it.

Redundancies are expected which they are dressing up as a re-structure and I am fairly certain this 're-structure' would involve my demotion.

I returned to work following ML last March. At the same time I was diagnosed with a serious illness and my child is also very ill. It was verbally agreed that I would be given some flexibility where my child is concerned as we attend numerous appointments with him.
These are taken out of my holiday entitlement, which is fine.

I also arrange where possible, for the appointments to be at the start or end of the working day, so that I miss as little work as possible. Again, this was explained to my empployers and agreed to before I returned to work.

Now, I think they want rid of me. They have done lots of things which could be taken by those more cynical than me to be making my working life difficult. Redundancy would be expensive for them.
I can't go in to too much detail as I'd be fairly recognisable - especially as I'm too angry to namechange.

So, where do I stand and what do I do?
Do they have to give me notice if they want to change my role?
Do I get a right to reply, or do I just have to accept it?
Can I ask for all of their reasoning to be given to me in writing so I can see a solicitor?

Any advice gratefully recieved. Given my circumstances, I'd rather not work at all, but I have to.
But I don't want to roll over and give in either

It's all a bit too hypothetical at the moment to give you much useful advice.

If redundancies are expected it would normally be a bit tricky to do these without a restructure of some description, why do you think it's 'dressed up' as a restructure? Do you have any actual reason to think you are going to be 'demoted'?

If your position is redundant, they can certainly offer you a position that would be a demotion, but you don't have to accept it, and because it wouldn't be a 'suitable alternative' you would be entitled to redundancy. They can't force you to accept a new role that isn't suitable.

I think really you need to attend the meeting, find out what their proposal actually is, then come back.
