Volunteering for an animal adoption centre

I'm trying to fill in a form for volunteering at an animal adoption centre and there is a question that I'm not sure how to answer: "We want your experience of volunteering to be rewarding for you, so please tell us what you hope to gain from volunteering here". Now I assume this is they type of question where you need to make it sound like it benefits them as well as yourself - how would you answer it? TIA.

What are your reasons for doing it?

Well, I think I would enjoy it!

I'm sure you would but I was trying to think of how you could be more explicit in your application.....something about putting something back into the community or satisfaction from sharing your knowledge and experience.

You see now this is why I need help!

They seem quite formal! The shelter I used to volunteer for used to greet volunteers with "Here for your fuzz-therapy, then?" which was a perfectly accurate summary of my motivation. Purring cats are good for the soul.

You could talk about your caring personality, the desire to protect and look after animals or say you feel strongly about animal neglect and cruelty, etc.....if all else fails, say you love fluffy kittens

That's brilliant, Attenborough!

Thanks scurryfunge, I will use your ideas and have a go at writing something
