this is all a bit theoretical at the mo but hoping you can help.

i'd like another dc.
i'd also like to change schools as i really dislike my current work environment.

i'm hoping to move schools within the local authority. what would my entitlement to maternity leave be if, for example, i ended up pregnant not that long into the new job?

would i still be entitled to everything that you get if you've been at the same school for ages, because it's the same local authority? or not as it's a different school?

thanks!

Hi,

I was in this sort of situation when I had my ds, where I was concerned that I wouldn't have been in the school long enough despite having moved from another school in the same LEA. The rule in our LEA (and so I guess yours too) was actually that as long as you had been serving without break in the same LEA, you were still entitled to your full maternity leave. I would definitely check this on the phone with your LEA though, because they do change things like this!

Another point just on teaching maternity, for in case you are planning very meticulously, is that if you give birth in a school holiday, you are not entitled to 'holiday pay' in the way that you would be in other jobs. For example, if you give birth on July 28th, your maternity pay kicks in at that date, and the 6ish weeks of pay that you've worked all year for just disappear! I assumed they'd start the maternity on the first day back at school in September, and was a bit shocked to find that they don't, making a holiday baby cost thousands of pounds more compared to a September baby for example. That's just another point to consider if you're fine tuning your baby planning...

Good luck!
