Relative due to have an operation...

Bit of advice for a relative please?

She works in a very hands on job, lots of heavy lifting etc. She is due to have an operation on her hand, and afterwards she has been told to not do any heavy lifting for 6 weeks.

She plans to ask for light duties at a meeting she is due to have with management, which has precedence, when a male co-worker had a hernia operation and did light duties for a few weeks, as well as pregnant ladies who get given office work.

Where would she stand, if they decided to tell her that she can't do light work, must do her regular duties, or use up her annual leave as time off (which she for some reason thinks they will do)

Her son in law has told her to contact ACAS, but she can't do so until Monday. I personally see no reason why they will tell her they she can't do light duties, but I think she just wants some reassurance and to cover all bases before the meeting TIA!

They will let her do light duties. If they don't, then she is not fit for working her normal job so can remain signed off sick. She won't have to use her holiday.

is her hand operation due to a long term problem? If so then it's probably covered under the DDA and therefore they are legally obliged to make "reasonable adjustments" e.g. light duties
