Hi I need to email my boss as my hours hours have been reduced, its a long boring story so i wont go into detail unless you need me too..

this is what i have so far

Hi XXXXXX

As my hours are being reduced again, after seeking advise it seems I am required to have my employment contract reviewed to reflect these changes

Firstly I am required to ask why my hours are being reduced

why have I been specified to have my hours reduced

who else has had their hours reduced

is there no alternate employment within the organization

how long is it expected to continue

and a review date to be decided between us, as to which I state if I agree to the reduction in hours or not

I cant seem to get further than that....I will say I dont think they are right in reducing my hours and are just trying to show me whos the boss, and yes they are my boss but they have to do it properly

any help appreciated

Dear xxxxx

As my hours are being reduced again, after seeking advice it seems I am entitled to have my employment contract reviewed to reflect these changes.

During the review, we will need to discuss the following points:

  1. Why are my hours being reduced?
  1. Have any other employees had their hours reduced?
  1. Is there any alternate employment within the organization?
  1. How long is the reduction expected to continue?

Please arrange a date and time for the review and let me know when / where it will take place by return of email.

Many thanks,

Officiallyme

x

By the way, I'm no expert on employment issues, just an English teacher - all I've done is proof read and re-drafted your email. Someone with more specific knowledge might be able to offer better advice.

Good luck!

Oh, and I don't know how that little 'x' snuck it's way onto the bottom of my version - don't include it in yours.

I wouldn't say all that. Your email sounds as though you're not happy about it but as long as they answer your questions you'll go along with it.

If your current hours are specified in your contract and/or you've been working those hours consistently for some time, then they form part of your terms and conditions and as such can't just be varied without your consent. Assuming you're not happy with the change I'd suggest emailing something like

"Further to our conversation on x date [or letter or however you found out about it] regarding a proposed change to my working hours, I understand that my consent is required to vary my terms and conditions of employment in this way. Please take this letter as notification that I do not consent to the proposed variation."
