Tipex on an application form?

Tipex? Cross it out 'neatly' or chuck the whole thing in the bin?

I have said to DH to put a line through it (not scribble), not to use tipex, he disagrees.

(I suspect, the reality is 'throw it in the bin' though given that i have heard of people throwing applications in the bin as the writing on the envelope was not straight and given that there are hundreds of applicants for one job)

can you tippex it out and photocopy the page?

I wouldnt throw the application out but would prefer iit to be error-free tbh. I would also prefer tippex to a line through iit, as long it was not lumpy. Lumpy tippex iis awful.

EVye · 21/02/2010 10:22

seem to have a finger keyboard problem with i at the moment, sorry.

Start a fresh, can he download another application form?

PavlovtheCat · 21/02/2010 10:30

We have no tipex so would buy some new and ensure we buy non lumpy tipex!

Alas it was not an online form, and deadline is tomorrow. I don't think they will accept a photocopied page, not with the rest of his work being photocopied.... It has lots of colours on it too so the photocopy would not work, unless a colour one?

I wondered if there was any formal protocol about this kind of thing.

Don't know of any protocol but i would prefer a single line through it than tip ex which is so messy and just looks crap.

How big is the mistake? A small error - say a date or one word then either would be fine (although personally I would prefer a new form!). A big mistake like he wants to change a whole paragraph - well I would sticker over it rather than tipex a big area, they are likely to need to copy it and you don't want his form blowing up the copier not a great first impression - might make him stick in their minds though

Also have you checked the organisations website, alot of places send out hardcopies but also have them online, worth a look anyway.

PavlovtheCat · 21/02/2010 10:45

Yes he has looked online already, he prefers online applications as he can cut and paste and less chance of mistakes. It is a small mistake, date in the wrong place.

He is going with tipex. I feel he is making a mistake here!

Ah....he has two application forms, as he is applying for two jobs at the same place...i think staples will have a colour photocopier...he could take a couple of copies. I normally do the copies at work but am on ML.

Don't Tipex!

It can cause problems when scanning some application forms.

Just put a neat line through and carry on.

SrStanislaus · 21/02/2010 13:06

Since you are buying new tippex why dont you try a tippex 'mouse' which draws a line of white ...erm.. stuff over the writing. It doesnt go lumpy as it is a piece of tape (oh yes , tape. that the word) and it photocopies fine.
