What can I do with my English degree apart from teach?

I did my PGCE and got pregnant on my NQT year. Not great timing and I'm finding it hard to find a placemnt in my area. I find teaching a bit of a nightmare anyway.
Would I be wasting my time doing an MA in English.
Other options are journalism. I like the idea of being a freelance journalist.
Would consider office work I suppose.
Toyed with the idea of legal secretary.
I love being a sahm but I need money and I want professional fullfillment but where's my inspiration gone?

I have an English degree and have managed a pretty good career so far as press officer/communications manager/writer. Be prepared to work hard and learn new skills so that you can talk to your colleagues and present your ideas in terms they understand, and you'll be fine. For example, you might feel that numbers on spreadsheets and graphs are not for you, but it's actually not that hard to master those tools, and it will help your credibility. You're unlikely to get a job as chief economist at Goldman Sachs, or marine statistician at DEFRA, but you knew that, didn't you? Teaching is a valuable and rewarding career, but if you want to earn money efficiently - effort in against hourly rate out - you might want to look elsewhere.

Good luck, you have huge amounts to offer.

Hi Maraisfrance- the idea of being a press officer appeals. How do I get into it?

I also like the idea of proof reading.
