I could really use some advice!! On Monday, I was offered a promotion at work that would start in September. I've been mulling over it all week and was leaning towards taking it. Then this morning, I took a pregnancy test which was positive!!!! Baby no.2 should be due towards the end of October. I imagine I would only take 6 months off, but is it a bit sneaky to accept the promotion when I know that I'll be off on maternity leave soon after starting?

no you work hard you deserve it if you accept it then tell them couple weeks after they cant dismiss your true value just because your having a baby. i take it .

take it! Don't discriminate against yourself for God's sake!

Take it. Why would it be sneaky? You are being rewarded for your abilities and your hard work, why should this change because you are pregnant?

Do you agree that pregnancy/maternity should not be used as a reason to side-track women in their careers? If you do, then take the promotion. And many congratulations!

How exciting! I agree with the others who have said take it! I started a job in early pregnancy although to be fair I didn't know about it. Yet after a month or so I did the test and had to tell my new boss about it. She was fantastic and has been really supportive so you might find that instead of being "funny" with you, they are actually supportive of you and your pregnancy.

Congratulations by the way!

Thank you all so much! Deep down I know that I wouldn't be doing anything wrong by accepting it. I guess it just feels a bit strange that I'm not being totally open about my situation with them. Obviously there is no need for me to tell them at this stage until I'm at least 12 weeks. Eeek!!!

just relax and enjoy your achievement

Nothing wrong with that at all. If it makes you feel better, the day my boss came over to the UK to tell me and my colleague that he had finally got approval for us to be promoted to the job we have now (she's part time, I'm full time, and we sort of share the job), I told him I was 13 weeks pg and my colleague told him she was 6 weeks pg with twins (had found that out the day before). And he was lovely about it.
His boss did get slightly vexed when another member of the team got pg shortly after too, and did threaten to have words with the DHs , but it all worked out OK

Take it. Wouldn't stop a man!
Congratulations on both counts.
