I have an interview at a local pre-school and I'm terrified!

I'm fully qualified but I havent worked since I had ds and they've since brought in the EYFS which I'm not trained in. Im scared incase they ask a load of questions about it and I just sit there looking dumb!!!

Any advice?

Do as much research as you can before hand. Swot up on the internet. Also make it clear that you are willing to go on courses and learn about any new procedures you are not familiar with.

Good Luck!

Hiya, the EYFS is all about children directing their own learning and we just support that. Planning should be short term to incorporate the children's own interests.

You should use the EYFS and their interests to draw children to learning areas that they might not usually frequent.

For example a little boy who likes to play with the dolls but hates the water could be encouraged to bath the dolls.

excellent juneybean thank you - its examples like that that will help me take it in more easily rather than studying text

Also to work in partnership with parents so you could ask about any diaries they have in place and about learning about children at home from these diaries.

Good luck btw! :D I'm looking for a new job too but don't know whether to stick to nannying or go back to nurseries.

Good luck. We have just recently taken someone on at my daughters pre-school who had work as a nanny for a few years so didn't know EYFS.

The fact that you know the pre-school must be in your favour. Be confident and positive inyour interview!

Thanks MaHumbug - thats a comforting post!

Ah Frosty, I spent most of last year looking for a new job so I know how nerve-wracking it can be. I'd been working for the same company for 13 years and it was really scary going into a new field of work. I started at the beginning of January and it's been lovely.

When is your interview?

FrostyTheSnowgirl · 07/02/2010 20:11

Its on friday! Possibly makes it worse because I know the people on the interview panel! im terrified I make a fool of myself!

wow changing jobs after 13 years must be daunting!!!

One of the best tips I've had, particularly for a teaching interview, is to prepare one or two questions for them at the end of the interview: "Is there anything I haven't covered?" is perfect, and allows them to tease more information out of you should they so require, as in an equal opportunities interview, which this will most certainly be, they are working to a 'script'.

tethersend · 07/02/2010 20:45

Oh, and good luck of course

FrostyTheSnowgirl · 07/02/2010 21:03

excellent tip thank you tethersend! x
