Hi Maize

I suggest you look at your employment contract - it will say so there.

Um I don't have one, should I contact HR or my line manager for one?

I think it is 4 weeks, but your manager can take less if for special circumstances.

Hi Maize

The HR department will have a copy in your file. It's likely to be one month's notice in writing but do check. I suggest you contact HR and say you've lost your copy of your contract and would like another one - you don't necessarily have to tell them you're planning on leaving at this stage.

If you have to leave in a shorter time than your contract stipulates, you may be able to negotiate this with your employer depending on the reason (e.g. you may be leaving to care for a family member) however, remember they do have the right to ask you to finish your notice period.

its four weeks unless you're up in the top bands (8 onwards), then its 12wks.

maxpower · 06/02/2010 20:58

depends on your pay band

twinklytoes I'm lower than band 8 and I have to give 8 weeks notice

Maize · 07/02/2010 00:22

Thanks for the replies. I will ring HR.

I am not leaving until later on in the year so not worried about not giving enough notice just starting to plan!

Oh and I am definitely lower than a band 8!

IIRC, bands 6 & 7 now have to give 8 weeks notice.

M1SSUNDERSTOOD · 08/02/2010 20:41

It also depends on if your contract is temp or permanent. One week for temp on either employers or employees side . One month is for permanent.

EccentricaGallumbits · 08/02/2010 20:45

Check your contract. Mine stated 4 weeks but my evil boss tried to tell me it was 6 weeks. I did enjoy proving him wrong and flouncing out after 2 (with 2 weeks annual leave to claim)

Kagey · 08/02/2010 22:22

Definitely check with HR - my Trust's notice periods are dependent on banding, in mine 6's are 8 weeks and 7's are 10 weeks and 8+ is 12 weeks. It should be on their homepage - good luck with the new job!

Different trust to trust. Where I used to work Upto band 5, 4 weeks, Band 6 8 weeks, Band 7 and over 12 weeks. Where I work now, no idea but my current boss commented on my last notice period so assume it is less

Is it covered under Agenda for Change terms nad conditions? You'll find a copy of hte handbook if you google

Good afternoon, I work for the NHS and I need to know if I will receive my full payment if I resign and am on sick leave, I have looked at the contract but I do not see that detail of resigning under illness, do I still have vacation days do I also get paid?
