Anyone any good with CVs?

I'm trying to update my CV but I'm having difficulty showing what I've been up to since going back to work after maternity leave.

Bascially, I started in my company 5 years ago as one of a team of 5. In 2006 I was promoted to lead that team. In 2007 I went on maternity leave for a year. When I came back, I was no longer team leader, but back to being one of the team on a part time basis.

How do I show that?! Do I need to say that my current role is part time on my CV? I want to show that I was a team leader as it shows management skills but will it look weird if I put the lesser role after it? Like I was demoted?

Argh! I hate CVs.

Is it a management job you are going for? Your cv should be tailored to whatever job it is you are applying for, so how you frame your previous experience will vary according to what you want to emphasise.

It's just a general update as I haven't done it for a while. I am thinking of applying for a new job, if I can find something! Probably won't be management as it will have to be part time again.
How is it best to show maternity leave? Can you show it as continuous employment or is that misleading?

Maternity leave is continous employment, and it's fine to show it as such. The fact that you spend part of your current employment on maternity leave doesn't matter. It's the kind of thing that's more likely to come up in the course of an interview, if you are explaining your skills and experience.

In your case it is also likely to come up to explain your change of role. You don't need to put that the most recent role was part time, but as it will (presumably) be obvious that you went back down a level, I'd probably be inclined to give a very brief one-line explanation of that.

When you are applying for new jobs, if it's a management job, you can emphasise your management role, and only put the recent one very very briefly, to make the management one stand out. You can put in your personal profile bit at the top that having taken some time working at a lower level, you are now planning to return to management position and make the most of your management skills and experience. If it's a job at the level you are working currently, emphasise your experience at that level, and bear in mind someone reading it may be looking for reassurance that you won't get fed up and frustrated within 5 minutes and either want a promotion or leave.

I would list it as one job and in the description of your role mention that you temporarily spent time in a management position and explain at interview as flowery says.

Also agree with the advice about framing the CV for the job you're going for.
