Hiya all

I had an email today from my a boss with a previous Trust, to say that he had recived a gift for me from someone I and my main boss helped with a piece of work. Now the person I did this for was'nt emmployed by the Trust but was a student. I now work for a differnt Trust but am just concerned as to whether its ethical to accept it or not. My main boss at the Trust also recieved a pressie. I know its a lovely gesture but dont want this to come back and bite me on the bum, especially if I see a job I like in the future there.

What would you do?? I have said that I am concerned about taking it but both have said that it is not from a patient or company representative, and the result of the piece of work was marked independantly totally out of the country in fact.

It depends what it is. If it is cash, then no. You shouldn't take it.

If it is a box of chocs/wine or similar then yes you should and send a thank you note.

There may be a register with your former employer for logging gifts - in which case you can record it there.

If the value of the gift is significant (ie over £100 then you may choose to suggest a charity to donate it to instead).
