Would you apply for a new job so soon into a new job?

I started a new job three weeks ago. It is the same as what I was doing before but in a new area and so the work is actually quite different.

I really dislike the hours (although they are better - 9-5 instead of shift work) and I am incredibly incredibly bored. I just feel miserable. I don't know if this is just because its so different to what I am used to though?

A job has been advertised that is doing what I used to do and I would really love it. The job closes at the beginning of Feb and interviews probably won't be until the beginning of March.

It is in the same department as my new (current) job so I don't know how this would all work ethically as well.

I would have a very strong chance of getting the job I imagine.

I feel really stuck Would you apply for the new job or see how things pan out in the current role?

I think you need to give a job a chance before you really hate it. If this job is in the same dept it's not going to go down well with your new boss as they would then have to readvertise your job and if you don't get it then everyone knows you don't like it

They probably wouldn't know unless i was offered the job. Its the NHS and they tend to be good at keeping things like this private.

So your manager wouldn't be involved in shortlisting etc?

No its the same department but a different section with a different manager if that makes sense?

Definitely apply - if you're sure the current job is not going to work out then it doesn't benefit anyone if you stay for a few months before you decide to leave. And if interviews for the new job are in March that still gives you time to properly settle into the current job before you decide it's not for you.
