Fraudulent HMRC emails

I've just been sent following from my accountant ... thought it was worth letting others know ...

Dear Client | Colleague

A Number of my clients have recently been sent fraudulent E-mail purporting
to be from HMRC. I would advise you not to open, answer or reply to these
e-mails as they are fraudulent and an attempt to gain personal information
from you. HMRC do not send e-mails. HMRC would never e-mail you requesting
information or stating you have an over or underpayment and request your
bank details. HMRC would only write to you directly in these circumstances
or me as your advisor in the first instance.

Should you have any questions relating to your taxation affairs please refer
them to me.

Many thanks

Oh yes, I've had a few "click here for a refund of your overpayment" ones. They look quite real, until you think "hang on, why would they be emailing me about that!"

However HMRC DO send e-mails sometimes - for example I'm registered for their self-assessment online service and I get e-mail reminders from them about that.

It's always best to log on through the usual website if you have any doubts....

Odd since I have an accountacnt to work out my figures. They are even sending it to the wrong email address!!!
