New fixed term job - should one wait before TTC, morally?

Just accepted a fixed term job, 6 months initially, possible extensions...

We'd like another one (already have 1 DC), is it morally suspect to TTC immediately? It's a big firm, they have only had the job signed off for 6 months as lots of redundancies happening now and probably in the future, so there is every possibility of it only being 6 months work in any event.

Of course I know there are no certainties in the TTC department and I could be there yonks, but I'm trying to think through each scenario.

WWYD? I know legally, I can do what I like, but would you feel a bit, well, sheepish annoncing a PG after being there only a few months? It's somewhere I've worked before (whilst PG!) so do know the managers involved.

Children are a social good so morally you can TTC whenever you like. Any time you do it some colleagues may find it difficult but that's part of working life and the firm's responsibility to manage, not yours.

No, you can't run your life around an employer. Go for it if you want to. You can always say is was a surprise if you're a bit .

I might feel a bit different if you were someone's only employee or whatever, but big firm, no moral qualms at all!

I wouldn't because it wouldn't sit right in my head BUT I certainly wouldn't blame anyone else for doing it.

Don't hold back. You might not get pg for a few months anyway, statistically, and even if you get pg immediately, it won't stop you fulfilling your contract.

I was going to say the same as Flowery. Even if you got pregnant straight away, you would be able to do siz months unless you had complications. Seems perfectly reasonable.

Thanks all,

I agree Ribena, if it were a small firm, I wouldn't have taken the job to be honest. Ditto a permanent job.

Flowery, I am expecting it to take a while, especially as we were really lucky with DD to get PG so quickly. But was just interested in what others thought re. the 'best case' scenario.

I'd say the odds of my contract not being renewed at the firm (due to financial constraints) are probably evens with me not being able to take up an extension due to being PG. Fair's fair!!
