Sick of going out to work. What can I do at home?

Kayzr · 11/01/2010 12:20

Is there anything I can do at home that will earn me about £300 a month that doesn't involve a car?

I hate going out to work and the place I work is a horrible bitchy place and I have just had enough now

Thanks.

Covkimbo, I think you replied to my thread asking if anyone had any work, what is your email so I can get some more info off you?

Kayzr · 13/01/2010 06:47

I'm not sure what I would like to do TBH. I couldn't ring people and try to sell them things as I have tried to do it and I just can't.

What about something along the lines of a virtual assistant?

eeejay · 13/01/2010 17:51

i'm with covkimbo, I sell the eco-firendly products too, via catalogue and farmers markets, I have to say I'm really enjoying it

Chanel26 · 14/01/2010 01:03

Hi Kayzr, I feel for you. There is nothing worse than working with horrible, bitchy people. I now work for myself (Usborne Books)having escaped that type of environment but to earn £300 a month is a big ask, particularly as you don't have a car. I think a lot of the homeworking "opportunities" will be the same as you generally have to get out to events and parties to sell. They are generally all great products but you do have to be very active and recruit to get a good income. I wish you well, regards Nicola

organicmummi · 25/03/2010 18:32

Hi,

I do Neal's Yard Organic, you can earn quite a bit of money from it if you really put effort in as you make 25% commission on sales. I have done a few parties lately and have made quite alot per evening. We have personalised websites which you can promote and you can get sales through family and friends. If parties etc were local you could earn a fair amount.

Please feel free to contact me.

Candlegirl · 29/04/2010 14:08

I was the exact same - working in an office environment for far too long can drag you down.

I started party plan 3 years ago, alongside my office job and can honestly say loving every minute of it, building my team & contacts so I can soon give up my job in the office and do the job I love permanately.

Ok it does help to have a car and you do work some of the hours out of the home when you are doing the parties, but lots of the work like paperowrk & networking can be done from home.

Find which party plan company would suit you best (i.e. products or costs nothing to join like mine) and try it out.

Good Luck and hope it works out for you!

I work through Arise UK. They provide virtual call centre services via home workers.
You do an 8 week course, of which the first 3 weeks are unpaid, the final 5 weeks are paid at a rate of £6.50ph. The course is also done from home,
You need

  • to be self-employed
  • to be affiliated with a limited company or to be a limited (as Arise only contract directly with limited company)
  • to have your own phone/broadband line - note this must be a WIRED service you are not permitted to access Arise systems over a wireless network. Phone line can't have any voicemail, or ringback services on it - caller display is fine.
  • a telephone with headset.
  • a PC with IE7 (not IE8 - older versions are fine, IE8 is not), Windows XP or Vista (Windows 7 is not supported).
  • a quiet place to work (as far as customers are concerned you are in a call centre!) that home noises cannot intrude on.

The amount of hours available each week (you have to book the slots you wish to work) varies a lot, tends to be very low over summer, and very very busy around Christmas, and sales time. But you are required to service a minimum 15 hours(5 at the weekend) 7 days a week between 7am - 11pm. And you book your time in 30min slots.

And no it is not a scam I have been doing it for a year, for 15 hours work a week you would earn a minimum of £90 a week. I am affiliated with largest limited company, as I found it less hassle taxwise. I don't actually take calls(but used to), I offer an enhancement service in that I look after a group of agents, listen to their calls and check they are adhering to the client's procedures.

There are bonuses that can be earned from supplementry selling, doing courses associated with the application, and during peak periods, working extra hours. Last Christmas you could earn up to £200 bonus on top of your hourly rate by working extra hours.

And no I will not benefit financially from posting this! Just think it is a great opportunity.

The 8 week course is a new thing, used to be 2 separate courses, and the first 8 week class graduates this week!

HI
Have to say before I started my Direct Selling business last year I thought I would be no good at selling...and I never call anyone to sell anything.
Let me ask you something...when you love something..a film, restaurant, shop, book...do you have difficulty recommending it to s friend.?

That is about as difficult as Direct selling can be and certainly the company I am associated with.
I have an ad on the home of the Local Listing page...take a look at my site.
Good luck deciding..maybe by now you already have.
ps: I was in a job for 13 years that totally exhausted and stressed me out..now I'm not and I couldn't be happier.

BouncingTurtle · 24/05/2010 17:15

Arise UK are still announcing new classes, 3 classes had graduated (some of my agents were in the first 2 classes and getting on great!).

The 8 week course is quite intense, 4 hours of "class room time" plus self study outside of class. You actually start call taking on week 2!

I personally think it is worth a shot - though it isn't for everyone.

Mylittlebubble · 24/05/2010 17:34

Bouncing Turtle - the £90 per week is that based on 15 hours a week? So is the hourly rate £6?

BouncingTurtle · 24/05/2010 17:46

Mylittlebubble - yes it is a minimum of £6phr.
The rate is based on length of calls and number of calls per hour, but if it works out less than £6phr, you get £6phr, iyswim?

LadyPops · 24/07/2010 16:23

Hiya

Q for Bouncing Turtle, are the Arise hours completelty to suit yourself? ie could I do 2 full days of 8 hours if I wanted to? or 3 hours each evening for 5 days to do the min 15 hours? Do you have to work on the weekend? Sorry, m a bit confused about how the hours work.

TIA!
