Not sure if this the right place to post this..
I'm currently on maternity leave. When I go back to work I'll be contracted to stay for 6 months as part of the maternity policy. Very good policy that pays a bonus that you have to pay back if you leave within the 6 months. By the time that 6 months is up, I'll have been working at the company for almost 11 years. It was meant to be a stop gap and I bloody hate it.

I've already decided that I want to do something about it and this is my first chance, but obviously I've been out of the loop for quite some time. I want to do something where I'm helping people, I've just been looking at the NHS jobs website but I'm a bit overwhelmed now. I have good GCSEs and not so good A levels, but no other qualifications other than that - so I'm thinking start small and work up. I also can't afford to come out of work completely and go to uni.

Where do I go from here?

What sort of experience do you have e.g. is it administrative?

Do you want to do something completely different within the NHS or, say, do you want to use the skills you already have in a more nurturing environment?

I'm in a similar position in regard to actual qualifications. I would love to do a midwifery/nursing degree. Have a look at local access courses, it's a year long course to get you back into studying full-time (if that's what you need), and gives you the UCAS points to get into University to study certain degrees e.g. nursing etc.

I have a mainly administration style background (office based work) but I want to do something completely different. One of the mums at school is a care assistant to the elderly (I was thinking of that as a starting point) she's told me you don't need qualifications, but I want to make sure I have options to learn and properly develop.
I'll have a look at access courses, cheers mama
