Calling City of London parents...

The Corporation's Summer holidays Playscheme will be opening for bookings next week.
Some City mums on here were interested for their school-age children?
I am going along to the Golden Lane HQ to pick up a pack for ds. If anyone else wants me to grab and post one on to them, can they CAT me asap?
Quite nice to imagine a "Sons and Daughters of Mumsnet" meet this summer...

no probs Batters. I am hoping the clubs are better managed than their attitude to paperwork and functioning links on websites I have to say
Binkie? dinosaur? turnagaincat? lisalisa? soapbox? anyone else?

Umm...I might be interested next year, but if its okay with Batters I will have a look at her pack if you get her one?

annh · 01/07/2005 15:13

Would you be able to post a link to their website which you did once before? While not a City mum, dh is a City dad which presumably carries equal weight!

Marina · 01/07/2005 15:44

Deffo annh, (to quote Kangamummy), but I had to telephone the number given as there is no downloadable link at present. I honestly don't mind picking you both up a pack and sending it on.
Scroll down to Holiday Playschemes

Marina, thanks for thinking of us - but we are now very happily settled with our new nanny, so [touch wood] aren't so much in need of emergency/extra cover. The only playscheme-ish thing we are planning is a week of drama club in August.

I too like the idea of them all hanging out together - but what if one (eg mine) biffed another (eg yours)?

We are facing that scenario when the time comes to dynamite our trashy bathroom dinosaur. Hope it goes well for your family this summer!
Bumping this for assorted City souls who might not have been around last week...
Soapbox, KBear, Sis...going to get the packs and the lowdown tomorrow lunchtime.

Marina

You are so kind to think of us all

We're covered for this year with our nanny who steps up to provide full time care in the holidays.

However I will bear it in mind for the inevitable weeks when she books holidays when we are not away!!!

bossykate · 04/07/2005 10:50

yes please!

Marina · 04/07/2005 12:43

Aha, bk! No problems.
Truth to tell girls (and dhs/dps) this is all part of my cunning plan to up the ante on the Children's Information Service's current attempts to target parents working in the City.
A lot of the Corporation's other initiatives and policies make a massive meal of the importance of the working population. IMO this is currently notably absent from their CIS profile/outreach activities. It's like, we want City workers to play netball, learn Italian, listen to Bartok at Broadgate, realign their chakras over at Bishopsgate...but...bring their daycare issues into the City? Hmph.

NotQuiteCockney · 04/07/2005 12:47

Are these open to children of people who work in the City, then, not just residents?

We wouldn't use this this year, DH is in Docklands, but he'll no doubt end up back in the City sometime. Or I could, who knows.

Marina · 04/07/2005 12:50

Yes, NQC. But they do a poor job of promoting them to the parent working community IMO.

I am also fairly p'd off that such a wealthy local authority still runs no state daycare for people in the City who don't earn £££££. At the moment they "buy" into Islington's council nurseries and IMO those places really ought to go to Islington residents.

Can pick you up a pack for the scheme if you are interested. Am starting to worry that ds may be signed up for the Masons, taught how forge bonds and generally fall into a bad lot

There's no point this year, we're all sorted and DS1 is too young anyway. I'd be curious to know how you find it, for myself and others.

Marina · 04/07/2005 12:53

I will be glad to report back. I think it's probably a very good scheme, which is why I am persevering with their oddball deadlines, inability to load anything sensible on to the website etc

They certainly have cash, judging by the one municipal pool in the City.

I regularly am boggled by the impracticality of school schedules and working in this country (private schools seem to be worse!). As a result, I have a spare 3-year-old after summer school for much of the first week of holidays. Well, DS1 likes company.
