Hi Everyone

6 months ago I started a new job wihcih was at a lower grade than my previous, the reason I did this was because I missed the involvement and the workload I had with a job I had been in for 5 years and in reading the JD my current post emulated this role. However what I actually do does not bear any resemblence to the actual JD,and there is very litte staff support or sincerity, hence I am looking for a new job.My main concern is that in completing an application how it will look with my current role being a lower grade than my previous role, how do I explain it??Would it be acceptable to leave the grade off my previous job so that my employment history looks better?? I am just worried that in putting the lower grade when applying for a post at my former higher grade it will reflect badly on me so I really would appreciate your opinions and advice please.
Best wishes for Christmas and the New Year!!

I don't know what kind of jobs you might be applying for, but on the application forms I have filled in (and I have done loads ) they never asked for the grades of previous jobs. Sometimes they asked for the salary, but most of them didn't even ask that.

Is it within the same company? does the application form ask for current salary/grade?

Hi

thanks for the replies, it is with the nhs, so asks for details of current post and previous, detailing the band,I was'nt sure if I just put in Band and then left it blanc whether it would just look like a typo of just whether to put it in, But i feel that it dosent look very good not that I am an aspiring brain surgeon or anything but I just want it to be genuine, if you know what I mean.

Then I would put it in, as long as you do a good application you can discuss the reasons at interview

I would put in the grade. They'll be able to see you were working at the higher grade till 6 months ago, which shows you're capable of it. At interview they'll maybe ask what the reasons were for taking that post, and why you now want to move on - if you explain it didn't really match the JD then I don't see why they'd have any problem.

Being in the NHS myself (and have been recruiting today!), I would definitely put in your band as otherwise it will come out at interview or references and will look strange.

A surprising number of people move up and down bands, although it's not often talked about. I would just make sure you explain why in your supporting statement.
