DP having problems at work

Hi I was wondering whether anyone could help.
DP works in a very specialised industry, has done for years, recently, since being employed by a company (as opposed to being self-employed) he has noticed that any criticism with his performance always seems to end with the employer having a go about his spelling (he's dyslexic and always been open and honest about this) and they've more or less called him thick.

Obviously, he's quite upset about this, but isn't this bullying? They have suggested that he should go to night school to improve, but he only makes the mistakes when he is rushed.

I don't suffer with dyslexia so although I'm upset with him, I can't offer any real support (i.e., regarding his rights). Any ideas what he can do to let them know that there is no 'quick fix' that they seem to be after, and that they really can't treat him like an imbecile?

Many thanks

Does he use spellcheck if using a pc? My DH also has dreadful spelling but always checks his work.

Is it perhaps that they want him to be more thoroug? Does sound though that they're being very mean and not really addressing the issue.

There isn't spellcheck on the system that he uses, and once he's entered something it gets locked in, so it's not like he can amend it later when he's a bit less rushed.

Could he type the text he needs into word or similar, spell check it and then paste it in?

I suppose it depends a bit on his level etc but spelling mistakes do generally look unprofessional in work documents. So maybe he just needs to ensure he takes his time and reads over carefully

Iirc dyslexia is covered under the DDA, hang on will see if I can find anything

WideWebWitch · 24/12/2009 13:27

It is, I thought so. So they are potentially discriminating against him for his disability

if the most negative they can pick up on about his work is that his spelling isnt great - then congratulate the guy - he is obviously doing a great job. i dont know what he can do - apart from tell them to get a f*cking life - he is dyslexic - they know this - get over it.

merry christmas

xx
