How do you find out about a companys maternity leave policy without actually admitting you are TTC

Am thinking of applying for a new job but it is with a smallish charity. We are ttc and ideally I wouldn't have applied for anything outside my current employer but this job would be very good and about 40% payrise! It's easy to find out about the annual leave/ flexi policies but obviouslyMat leave is more likelyyo put them off me

how can I find out?

Ask to see the company policy, all co's over 5 employes should have a co handbook which you can view.

If you haven't even applied for the job yet your best bet is to do so first. You will find it easier to get someone to give you copies of all their policies if you are at least in a recruitment process.

If you end up getting the job, you are likely to be given all that stuff as part of the written job offer together with your contract anyway, so you will not be obliged to accept a job without having viewed it all.

A smallish charity is unlikely to offer anything other than the statutory maternity pay. I would work on the assumption that this is all you are going to get.

Link to direct.gov website.

You may want to look into "Keeping in Touch" days - which is where you can work for 10 days during your maternity leave. This is a way of earning some additional money whilst on maternity leave.

Good luck with TTC!

Hi there, I was in a similar situation in that I was actually PG (very early though, and certainly not prepared to announce it) and my company was going through a merger.

Had a meeting with the HR folks (big company) and tried to nonchalantly throw in a question about maternity leave in between others about holidays, expenses, etc. Came in with a list and said I wanted to be thorough and check everything out. This was in a big all-hands meeting, would have preferred a one-on-one session. All my other coworkers were male (+ one woman with grown children) so no one else was going to raise the question...
Not sure I fooled anyone, but no one directly asked, soon after it was Xmas and by the time I returned it was obvious .

Worth asking for a copy of all HR policies though, matleave should normally be in there.
