...and based in London, are there any days out, or things you can recommend to do before going back to work?

Just want to make the very most of this precious time and not be sitting at my desk wondering why I didn't do A) B) or C)?!

Was there anything you wished you'd done?

Just played with DS as much as possible. How old is your DC?

flyingdaisies · 08/12/2009 11:00

DD is 8 months, it's all going too too fast!

It flies by! At that age my DS loved being around people and shuffling about (couldn't crawl yet) so I would just go out and about places where you can be together - coffee shops / baby groups. Have you checked out your local libraries for activities.

Why not get her dressed up for winter and go to the park. DS loved the swings from about 7 months.

HTH, and enjoy it, I've been back at work 3 months now and whilst I enjoy my job, I miss being with DS all day every day. Although on the bright side you learn to appreciate and make the most of the time you do get together!

Good luck.

Thanks for response, sounds like a good plan, easy to get into a routine (at home) and forget all those things outside the front door, especially with lots of teething going on!

Right we're off!

I'd do things for you, rather than for your DS specifically as he's probably still at the age when he will be happy just to be in his buggy around lots of people / activities.

I went on a guided walk around our town in the last couple of weeks of my maternity leave as it was something I'd always wanted to do and never would have had time for ordinarily!

I would recommend

  • take as much time as you can afford in settling DC into new childcare arrangements
  • a hair cut
  • shoes mended
  • dry cleaning
  • new work clothes if you need any
  • declutter
  • file household paperwork
  • get any tradesmen in you need for any outstanding jobs
  • see the optician, dentist, doctor etc.
  • MOT, service, car tax, car insurance etc.

Just do everything you can before you go back to work as you'll have no free time for ages and you need any goodwill in hand for days the baby might be ill rather than for dentist's appointments for you.

Thank you, thank you - great suggestions all round.

A bit for me, a bit for her and a lot of organisation!
