Teaching assistant training

I used to be a primary teacher, reception and year one, before Sahmdom. That's ten years ago now.
I may need to find work soon but would prefer not to go back into teaching. Does anyone know if I could go straight into being a teaching assistant or would need some training.

I did just this, this time last year. And I needed no additional training beforehand.

I was a secondary school teacher (ICT and Business) for 10 years and had been working for 3 years in a male prison doing advice and guidance.

I did some voluntary work in my DD's (independent) infant classes for a few months on my days off in the run up.

I then looked at TA jobs. I applied for a level 3 TA job at a local infant school, working with Y1. Got the interview and the job, and started a couple of months later. I love it All the best bits of the job without the pressure and work load of a teacher - just much less pay!

Yay! And well done you. So maybe just do some helping out at school first.
Thank you.

I reckon any school would snap you up in a second

Thanks Cybil . I must admit after such a long break my self confidence is not very high.

Good luck

You should be snapped up. Just sell yourself well in the CV and have some recent experience.

You may well find out you end up doing stuff over and above TA duties, once everyone knows you are a qualified teacher - but stuill at TA rates - well IME. But I love my job, so it isn;'t an issue.
