Am currently SAHM, which I enjoy, but feel I could do more and I'm tired of doing the same thing everyday.

I have been a SAHM for about 4 years now. Had to give up University when I had my dd.

I am having abit of a crisis now, as to what I should do. We are ok financially at the moment on dh's salary, even though it is low, we don't have huge outgoings. (luckily)I worry what would happen if he lost his job, pensions, if he left me etc..

I would like to do something part time that would fit around the children (we have 2 dc's), if at all possible. I realise this may be difficult, as most people would also like that?!

I have two degrees, one in psychology and one in speech and language therapy, which I finished 3 years of, but didn't manage to finish the final year, and can't work as SALT, as I'm not registered, due to not completing the whole course!

Sounds complicated when I write it down. I really feel stuck now. Not sure how on earth I am ever going to work again, or if I am even employable, as I have little work experience. Any useful advice would be welcome. Thanks.

I'm feeling your pain. Am in the exact same position and am going around in circles and cannot come to a conclusion at all.

You only have a year of the SALT left to do though, is there any way you can complete it? I would imagine it's not something you can do online but maybe you can split the last year in half and complete it in two years? Is it still something you want to do?

I agree with Schnullerbacke, it does seem to be a waste of time (and good qualification) if you dont finish your SALT course. I think its worth finding out if you could still complete it, maybe even part time through flexible training? Then you would have two degrees to play with. I know it probably doesn`t sound too good to go back to uni, but I think you might even enjoy it (only if you are still interested in the subject, of course) Good luck!

Thanks. Sadly it's not practical to go back now. due to childcare issues, plus a 3 hour drive to the course in the midlands. I feel like I've already been out too long to go back. I could do a pgce, but don't feel cut out for teaching. I was finding the SALT course very stressful, with the commute, studying and leaving my ds with my parents. I couldn't do that again. Plus I have dd now.

Much as I love the dc's, I feel I've lost 'me' and want a little bit back.

I totally understand how you feel.
I had a job I loved which I had to leave due to being injured and work and being unable to continue in that role. I then retrained and studied for years to become a lawyer which I loved. I left that job 4 years ago next month to move abroad with my DH due to his work.
I had two DC since then so not all time wasted but felt I was vegetating.
Since then I've done a few courses. An extensive family mediation course which involved 3 x weeks in London and a lot of studying/assignments and several correspondance courses including a counselling one through nec college in cambridge. They might have something on offer that may suit you and may just update your extensive qualifications so you could build yourself a career?
I'm thinking of perhaps setting up as a mediator/counsellor when I return to the UK and I'm sure with your skills/qualifications and a bit of an update you'll be successful too. Good luck
