Hi all,

I've got a 12 month old son who's at the works nursery and I've been back at work since mid Sept full time. I've reduced my working hours so that I finish my day at 3.30pm and collect the little one from nursery (which is just next door). I'm finding it a real struggle even with the reduced hours and I really miss him and by Wed, I hate taking him to nursery, I just feel so guilty. He has started to cry when I leave him (although stops affer a few seconds, and he is happy and playing the rest of the day), so I'm finding it difficult. Also the pressure of getting everything done at the weekend too.

So i'm thinking of going part time, to working 4 days. I've got a review of my hours coming up 20th Dec. At the moment I'm thinking of dropping Wednesday or Friday. I've been taking a few Weds off as holiday so far and it has worked well.

But would Friday be better in the sense that DS would be settled in to nursery for 4 days, rather than go for 2 days then a break and another 2 days? I just feel like anything more than 3 days is a long time, so Wed would be good to break things up.

Anyone had any experience of having a Wed or a Fri off? How did it work?

when i went back to work after having ds i had a wednesday off, it was great because i went to work 2 days, had a day off and then did 2 day. i dont really like my job (dont hate it) but on a Monday i thought "only one day to go then off" and the same on a Friday. It also gave me chance to do the midweek clean, ie the washing and ironing etc that had mounted from the beginning of the week. i didnt feel like i was working most of the time because of it only being two days at a time. the down side is i felt like i spent my day off doing housework.

i went back full time and have now (due to recession) been put back on four days. i now have a Friday off. i now do all my housework on a Friday so i have the weekend for family time and it works very well. downside is that by Thursday i am tired and in need of a day off! and the housework has mounted up as well as having to do housework on a night when i get in from work.

in my opinion Wednesday is a good day. i chose Friday's this time round because we have family on the other side of the country and it means we can spend a long weekend with them without having time off and also ds has health problems and most of his appts are on a Friday,

hope this helps.

You may find they're more willing to give you Wednesdays off than Fridays.

go for the wed - more likely to get. tbh we're all (parents) are being frowned upon in our organisation at the moment as the general choice is for mon or fri as the day off.

invest in a slow cooker and expect to spend sometime each night clearing some of the house work if you want to enjoy the weekend as family time. most of all lower your standards

Thanks for the replies!

yes I think Wed is the day to go. It'll nicely break up the week. now just hoping work will agree to it!
